Latin words and expressions in Current English

This is more a reminder to myself… But I thought that maybe someone else might find it useful =)

a.D. – Annum Domini – year of the Lord (año del Señor, después de Cristo)

Add. – addendum – extra info added to the end of a book or other document (adenda, apéndice, sobre todo de un libro)

Ann. -annui, annuus – annual, yearly (cada año)

Alt. – alteratio – alteration (alteración)

Alter ego – (my) other self – (otro yo)

a.m. – Ante Meridiem – before midday (antes del medio día, por la mañana)

e.g. – Exempli Gratia – for example (por ejemplo)

et al. – et alii (m), et aliae (f), et alia (n) – and others (y otros)

etc. – et cetera – and the rest (y el resto, y demás)

ibid – in the same place (en el mismo sitio/lugar)

i.e. – Id Est – that is, in other words (esto es, en otras palabras)

in situ – in the original place, or the place where something should be

Ltd. – Limited ( p.e., en la forma jurídica de una empresa, S. R. L., Sociedad de Responsabilidad Limitada)

p.a. – Per Annum – per year (por año)

p.m. – Post Meridiem – after midday (después del medio día, [para los españoles, la hora de comer y de la siesta])

P.S. – Post Script – postscript (postdata, después del escrito)

R.I.P. – Resquiescat In Pace – Rest In Peace (DEP, Descanse En Paz, o EPD, En Paz Descanse)

St. – strata – street (estrada, camino, calle, vía)

St. -sanctus – saint (santo)
